Art of Contrabass Guitar
Geboren wurde Juan Garcia-Herreros zwar in kolumbien, seit vielen Jahren hat er aber seinen Lebensmittelpunkt in Oesterrerich, und deshalb erscheint er auch in dieser Abteilung. Die Schneeeule unterrichtet in Graz an der Hochschule, und von Zeit zu Zeit veroeffentlicht er Werke unter seinem Namen. Nach seiner Debuet-CD liegt nun sein zweites Werk vor und stellt trotz der Qualitaet seiner ersten CD den Vorgaenger in den Schatten. Juan Garcia-Herreros ist einer von denen, die an der elektrischen Bassgitarre ganze Geschichten erzaehlen koennen. Dazu gehoert halt mal mehr als das Technische, dazu gehoeren auch Lebenserfahrung und ein weiter Horizont. Juan Garcia-Herreros hat beides im Uebermass aufzuweisen. Seine Kompositionen sind eben mehr als das Aneinanderreihen von Noten, er schafft Melodien, er schafft Songs und er schafft zustaende. Behilflich bei der Erschaffung sind ihm unter anderem Lew Soloff, Klaus Dickbauer und Pete Nater. Wenn es einen Erben von Jaco Pastorius gibt , Juan Garcia-Herreros koennte es sein.

CLAVE SONERA'S - RUMBA PARA VIENNA CD RELEASE
"Another cross cultural meeting, led by the German pianist Gunther Bruck, who can bring a band together, that's for sure. Recorded mostly in Brooklyn, the album features some heavyweights from Venezuela, including the brothers Quintero, Luisito and Robert, along with Nelson Gonzalez on tres, and the Colombian bassist Juan Garcia-Herreros. The music's really flexible, dropping into timba breaks, then moving into salsa; it's made by masters, and you can tell. There's so much rhythmic ingenuity; and Bruck, quietly, behind the proceedings drops in some modern harmony on piano. This is all really fresh and new sounding; it's not quite a descarga, nor is it totally a dance project - though Bruck can throw down a tumbao - it's just great music, and a total surprise. Highly Recommended. "

Juan Garcia-Herreros has been selected as a Projekt X Change ambassador to represent Colombia and his integration as an artist in Austrian society. Projekt X Change focuses in bringing foreign and established public figures into Austrian classrooms to talk about their positive and negative experiences of integrating in a foreign country. The Austrian president Dr.Heinz Fischer personally thanked and congratulated him in the opening ceremonies which took place in Vienna's Hofburg palace. The Radio Program will feature interviews and tracks from the TRES CAMINOS CD on Nov.13 and Nov.20 .
A Live concert from the trio's performance in the Outreach festival will also be aired on 24.11.2008.

Auf der Buehne, auf der die Preistraeger stehen, stand er bereits 2005. Damals erhielt er dank seines Albums "Chez Es Saada" des Hans Koller Preis als Newcomer. In diesem Jahr gewinnt er mit seinem Album "Alma" die Auszeichnung "CD des Jahres". Kein Wunder, bedenkt man, dass die Vorarbeiten fuer dieses Album bereits 2005 begannen. Was lang waehrt, wird gut, und Reiters Liebeserklaerung an die Musik Brasiliens besticht gleichermassen durch den Anspruch und dessen Einloesung durch hochkaraetige Musiker wie Alegre Correa, Bertl Mayer, Ana Paula Da Silva, Matthias Pichler, Juan Garcia Herreros, Matthieu Michel und Judith Reiter. Musikalitaet und Internationalitaet auf hoechstem Niveau, und das alles auf der Basis des Jazz, der fuer Reiter mehr ist als bloss Musik.:

JAZZ INSTITUTE KUNST UNIVERSITAET GRAZ
Juan Garcia Herreros has been invited to teach Electric Bass for the Jazz Institute in Graz. He is the first Colombian to be honored with such an academic position in Austria. On November 5th the University will have a Vorstellungskonzert in celebration of the event.
The trio recording also features Juan Garcia-Herreros on Electric Contrabass Guitar. The track was produced by Georg Luksch at Home Music studios Vienna 2008.

ALMA
Austrian Pianist Martin Reiter has released this month his second CD as a bandleader. The much anticipated "ALMA" is now available and on tour through Austria in september and October. The CD features Ana Paula Da Silva, Alegre Correa, Bertl Mayer, Matthieu Michel and Juan Garcia-Herreros.

Snow Owl honored by Jazz First
Juan Garcia-Herreros, also known as Snow Owl, was recently honored as Best Jazz Artist by Jazz First, a cooperation between Jazzeit Magazine, Quinton Records and Erste Bank. Jazz First seeks to identify young jazz talent and then support them in the furtherance of their career.
Jazz First calls Snow Owl an "extraordinary bass player" and says "[h]is characteristic sound and charismatic performances bring new perspectives to the Electric Contrabass Guitar within a musical genre which is more commonly associated with the Acoustic Bass."
